I’m curious about interest for a sporadic meeting of folks that are actively doing machine learning. The goals would be something likeThe goals of this group include:

  1. Seek and provide help for specific topics (e.g., how to make a certain type of neural net)

  2. Read and discuss papers

  3. Look over code and play with new tools

The group would will meet sporadically, as needed. We won’t impinge on the main data science working group in that we likely will be getting into the weeds. That is not to say that this group is only for folks that are super users. Far from it. However, this group is not the place to pick up the basics of machine learning but more for folks that are actively trying to use this stuff. For learning the basics, please suggest topics for the main data science working group, that way lots of folks could provide input and benefit. Please drop a note here if you have any interest in this and we can figure out what to do. can arrange the meetings on this page so if someone gets interested at a later date they can tune in.

Interested parties: Mallory Lai Andrew Siefert Topher Weiss-Lehman Lars Kotthoff Emily Gipson Shannon E Albeke Scott Klasek If I missed you and you are keen please add your name to the list or watch this page (see options at upper right)!

I am stoked about learning from you all! From the comments section it looks like both Topher Weiss-Lehman and Shannon E Albeke have some image analysis to do, so perhaps we start with a session where you all describe what you are doing and maybe show off where you have gotten. Perhaps Lars Kotthoff or someone else from his lab also has some background in image analysis and could chip-in too. If this sounds good to you all then maybe we try to meet briefly next week (an hour max)? Here is a whenisgood link: http://whenisgood.net/rq7xc2i

No worries if you all are not keen or are too busy. We can try again later this month. Cheers, jh
