SLA Collaboration

The bestiary crew (Rebecca Austin, Erin BentleySara Griffith) will be teaching the Build-A-Beast: 3D Beast Build on Oct. 19th at the SLA studio.

The 3D Beast Build went well, five kids showed up for the build and were engaged for the full hour and a half. We gave a brief talk in the beginning of the workshop about what microbes were, how they functioned, and what each of the items represented in the cell. The kids were then turned loose to build their beasts. During the crafting time, we walked around and asked questions about the microbes being built, how the things added to the cells made them function differently, where they could live, etc. We finished by coming up with "scientific names" for each of the built microbes, and sent the kids home with their new beasts.

Future potential collaborations:

  1. WINOgradsky columns-- making Winogradsky columns from empty wine bottles, drinking wine, and talking about microbes
  2. Christmas Microbe Ornaments-- using the items we have from the petri dish suncatchers, we can make microbial Christmas Ornaments
